Bass Coast will sing in the Festive Season, with carols nights at five different locations in December.

By Bass Coast Council Council - 10th December 2009 - Back to News

Council’s Community Safety Manager, Peter Laydon, said the carols nights had become an important part of the Christmas Events calendar.

"We kick off with Carols in the Park in Grantville at the start of December, with the final Carols by Candlelight being held in Wonthaggi just before Christmas," said Mr Laydon.

"In between, there are nights in Cowes, Inverloch and Corinella.

"These evenings are organised by the local community for the local community and really are about sharing the Christmas spirit.

"Some of the nights include sausage sizzles, fun activities for the children and even a special appearance by Santa!"

Mr Laydon said the carols nights were getting more popular each year.

"We do expect the crowds to increase again this year, so if you are planning on attending, allow yourself a little extra time," advised Mr Laydon.

Carols will be held on:

  • 6 December – 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Grantville, Carols in the Park, Grantville & District Memorial Park
  • 12 December – 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Carols in the Glade, The Glade, Inverloch
  • 15 December – 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Carols by the Bay, Cowes Foreshore, The Esplanade
  • 19 December – 6.00pm to 9.30pm: Carols on the Foreshore, Corinella foreshore (Cnr Peters St & The Esplanade). Free sausage sizzle, Santa
  • 20 December – 6.30pm – 8.00pm: Carols by Candlelight, Wishart Reserve, Mc Bride Street, Wonthaggi. Sausage sizzle, face painting, Santa

Like many community events over the summer, the carols crowds could also have an impact on traffic in the area.

"Our advice right across this summer season is to plan your trip, as event crowds can mean much more traffic in the local area," said Mr Laydon.

"We also ask anyone going along to this, or any event, to ‘Enjoy it, Don’t spoil it’.

Keep rubbish off our beaches

Council’s Community Safety Rangers would be increasing their patrols of local beaches over the summer.

"Broken glass on our beaches and foreshores is a real safety issue for us, as the risk of injury for anyone walking barefoot is severe," explained Mr Laydon.

"Camping, lighting fires or having parties is also forbidden on beaches across the Shire.

"There are considerable fines in place for breaking these local laws. Anyone living or visiting Bass Coast needs to respect the local environment and the residents and we will be enforcing any breaches.

"The police will also be visiting known beach hotspots at night so anyone found lighting fires, camping or drinking on the beach will be fined.

"If you are concerns about illegal activity on our beaches or foreshores please ring 000," urged Mr Laydon.
