Latrobe Regional Gallery May 2021
Series of events from Latrobe Regional Gallery this May 2021.
We’ve been pleased to welcome so many new visitors to the Gallery. Da Vinci Machines was a roaring success with over 9,500 visitors in just eight weeks. We’re thrilled that at least 5,000 of those visitors were from right here in Latrobe City. We would love to know what you thought of the exhibition. LRG Winter Program: 15 May - 1 August
Our upcoming Winter Program invites you to get curious. Our world is changing fast and to really understand it we might have to pause, notice and ponder what this place is all about - galleries are a great place to do that.
Be sure to join us for the opening celebration event on Friday 28 May at 6pm. We have planned something special to welcome you and the artists to LRG and also have some exciting LRG Live events.

Exhibitions
Speculative Realms by Tricky Walsh
Walsh’s work asks us to consider other possible models, other possible realms in which our world could be seen and made. The artist is interested in mathematics and science, particularly contemporary science that contemplates ideas such as the fourth dimension. The event will take place on 15 May to 1 August.
Our New Home
Our New Home - a photography display of women in Gippsland by Lauren Murphy
This exhibition is a project by photographer Lauren Murphy, auspiced by Latrobe Community Health Service. The show features photographs of refugee and migrant women in Gippsland in their domestic or familial environment. The aim is that the exhibition serves as a reminder to pause and consider another’s life journey, as no two experiences are the same.
From Australia : An Accumulation
An Accumulation is a lineup of Australias most renowned artists and the selected works from the seminal print portfolio ‘Aus Australien
From Australia: An Accumulation features new print commissions from some of Australia’s most renowned contemporary artists, alongside selected works from the seminal print portfolio ‘Aus Australien’, produced by René Block in 1988. The event with be on 22 May to 8 August.
Cloud Machines
Cloud Machines - a creation by David Haines & Joyce Hinterding
Starting on the 29 May to 8 August, Artists Haines and Hinterding are interested in the unseen, invisible natural phenomena. Their work has seen them create ultra-low frequency antennas to hear the electrical activity in the atmosphere, fly a balloon to the edge of space, and create a scent that recalls the first rain.

LRG Winter program
The Winter Program is full of exciting opportunities to spark your curiosity and creativity. Our new LRG LIVE events invite you to experience surprising live performance in the gallery, this month featuring local arts collective Owls of Nebraska. Our Open Days initiate creative action and inspiration across all gallery spaces for the whole family to enjoy. Sunday Life Drawing will provide a weekend wind-down for those wishing to explore new techniques or skills, and Artist Workshops offer access to professional techniques and insights.

LRG Live
Owls of Nebraska is a performance called Checkmate to coincide with Tricky Walsh’s exhibition, Speculative Realms
Latrobe Valley group, Owls of Nebraska will stage an especially commissioned performance called Checkmate to coincide with Tricky Walsh’s exhibition, Speculative Realms. Owls of Nebraska are Anthea Williams, Kim McDonald, Anthony Brandon, Kate Zizys, Pezaloom. Choreography by Jasmin Susic. It will be shown on Sunday, 16 May at 2pm.
Bookings essential as places limited at the owls of Nebraska.
Exhibition Celebration
This event will take place on Friday, 28 May from 6pm to 8pm, artists, David Haines, Joyce Hinterding, Tricky Walsh, Trent Walter and Lauren Murphy will be in attendance
LRG LIVE Performance by DJ NonEntity. The exhibition celebration will include a special performance by DJ NonEntity. NonEntity is an electronic music producer and DJ/turntablist with releases on the Uncomfortable Beats label. NonEntity will be traversing through territories of spacey dub and off-kilter jazz, to jungle and hip hop and anywhere in between.
