Information session to help build business

Latrobe City is hosting a free information session for businesses on how Council’s economic development unit ‘Invest Latrobe’ and the Industry Capability Network may be able to help businesses within the region.

The information session titled ‘Building Your Business’, is the fourth in a series of six Latrobe City Community Information Sessions, and will be held at the Morwell RSL, Corner of Tarwin and Elgin Streets at 6pm on Wednesday 8 October.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said the information session was being provided as a part of the organisation’s commitment to making its services more accessible to residents.

Building your Business will be hosted by Adrian Scott, Manager of Invest Latrobe, and will feature representation from the Industry Capability Network (ICN) which is contracted to the Victorian State Government for the provision of import replacement services through local sourcing.

Mr Hancock said Council is committed to working with business to assist in the attraction and retention of sustainable economic development in the Latrobe region. "This session is an opportunity for local business people to find out more about the range of services and new developments taking place in the Latrobe Valley," Mr Hancock said.

Bob Stevenson, Regional Manager of the Industry Capability Network (formerly known as the ISO) said the Industry Capability Network was delighted to be working in partnership with Latrobe City to help promote the range of opportunities available to business people in the region.

"ICN provides local business with expert knowledge on resources and capabilities of local industry, and assists them identify appropriate Australian supply solutions to their purchasing and supply requirements," Mr Stevenson said.

"As such, we will be highlighting ways that local businesses can take advantage of local sourcing arrangements and import replacement programs," Mr Stevenson said

Mr Scott said the team from Invest Latrobe will be focussing on specific topics including business development support, linking in with major business investment in the region, building business networks, improved business infrastructure, sources of funding available for business development, and new developments at Latrobe Regional Airport and the logistics terminal.

"People attending will be able to ask questions and Invest Latrobe representatives will be available after formalities close for one-on-one discussions," Mr Scott explained.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said the Invest Latrobe business community information session represents a chance for local business people to get the latest information on the support and services available to them within the region.

"While this session is a part of Latrobe City’s commitment to communicating more effectively with residents, we are pleased to be working in partnership with the Industry Capability Network to help business in the Latrobe Valley grow," Cr Middlemiss said.

"It is being run after normal working hours, so that business people who cannot normally access Latrobe City Services during the day can attend," Cr Middlemiss added.

Light refreshments will be supplied, so those who would like to attend are asked to telephone Latrobe’s Citizen Services on 1300 367 700 to indicate they are attending.
