New hall milestone

The town's existing 60-year-old hall, which played a vital role as a refuge during and after the 2019-20 bushfires, will be replaced with a purpose-built facility designed to serve the community for generations.

"This community has faced some incredibly tough times, from the devastation of the Black Summer bushfires to years of setbacks and funding delays. This contract award is a major milestone - and a moment to celebrate. It's the result of tireless community advocacy, consultation, determination, and a strong sense of unity," Mayor Cr John White said.

Sarsfield community renewal

The redevelopment will deliver a multi-purpose community centre with meeting rooms, a large function space, commercial kitchen, play space facilities and more. Council is delivering the project in partnership with the Sarsfield Community Association, which has played a key role throughout the process.

Simon Hof, former president of the association, said the project was about more than just a building. "The really powerful story here is Sarsfield itself. Our community has worked together over the past four years to create something lasting."

"This new hall and reserve have become a symbol of renewal and a focal point for our shared future. It's not just about the facility - it's about staying connected, staying active and continuing to grow our strong community spirit," he said.

Funding drives progress

The project has received $3.6 million in funding from the Australian government through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications. "This project wouldn't be happening without the persistence of the Sarsfield Community Association and the support of our funding partners."

"Council is proud to play its part in creating the conditions for this community to thrive - and I look forward to seeing construction get underway soon and completion by the end of the year," Cr White said.
