Gippsland landcare winners

Two Gippsland winners were announced at the awards ceremony in Melbourne this week, with Moogji Aboriginal Council receiving the First Nations Landcare Collaboration Award and Kate Mirams and Peter Neaves receiving the Australian Government Sustainable Agriculture Landcare Award.

Mr Chester said the awards were a well-deserved recognition of the practical work being done across Gippsland to care for the region’s land, waterways and natural environment. "It’s terrific to see Gippslanders recognised for their hard work, dedication and practical efforts to protect our environment while supporting sustainable agriculture. Landcare has always been at its best when volunteers, farmers, community groups and organisations work together to make a difference on the ground," Mr Chester said.

Gippsland landcare recognition

Mr Chester said this year’s awards were particularly significant as Victoria marks 40 years of Landcare. "Here in Gippsland, we understand how important it is to look after our natural environment while supporting the agricultural industries and regional communities that rely on it. That balance is at the heart of Landcare, and these award winners are terrific examples of what can be achieved through practical, community-led action."

Victorian award winners will now go on to represent the state at the National Landcare Awards in Adelaide in 2027. "Congratulations to Moogji Aboriginal Council, Kate and Peter, and everyone involved in Landcare across Gippsland. Your commitment to caring for our region is greatly appreciated, and this recognition is thoroughly deserved," Mr Chester said.
