Latrobe City launches Forestree platform showcasing 63,000 public trees across urban and rural townshipsLatrobe City Council has launched Forestree, an interactive platform showcasing more than 63,000 public trees, 600 species and ongoing tree planting, watering and maintenance efforts. By news@gippsland - 5th October 2026 - Back to News Latrobe City Council has launched Forestree, a new interactive online platform giving residents a live look at the thousands of public trees that Council maintains in streets, parks and open spaces across Latrobe City's urban and rural townships.
Latrobe City Council has launched Forestree, an interactive platform showcasing thousands of public trees while supporting canopy growth, responsible management and biodiversity Exploring Latrobe treesLatrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said the platform was a great way for the community to get to know the trees in their local area. "Trees are such an important part of our neighbourhoods. They give us shade on a hot day, make our streets and parks greener, and provide habitat for local wildlife." "Forestree is a really easy way to have a look at the trees around Latrobe City and learn a bit more about them. There's more than 63,000 trees shown on the platform and more than 600 different species, so there's plenty to check out. It's also a great way to see the amount of work that goes into looking after our urban forest and making sure these trees can be enjoyed for years to come," Cr Gibson said. Tree management highlightThe platform highlights the scale of Council's ongoing work to care for and grow trees, with 2116 trees planted and more than 26,000 trees watered in the past 12 months. It also demonstrates the scale of ongoing tree management, with more than 51,000 maintenance and tree works completed in the past 12 months. Council's qualified arborists undertake routine tree assessments, manage risks, maintain structural integrity and respond to issues, with public safety, customer service and environmental responsibility guiding the management of public trees. The platform forms part of Council's commitment to responsibly managing public trees, growing canopy cover and supporting biodiversity across Latrobe City. Residents are encouraged to explore Forestree and discover more about the trees that contribute to Latrobe City's environment, neighbourhoods and community wellbeing.
