Community groups encouraged to apply for East Gippsland’s 2026-27 grants program before 14 September 20260 deadline

East Gippsland community groups can apply for 2026–27 grants supporting community, environmental, social and wellbeing projects, with funding from $3,000 to $20,000 available until September 14, 2026.

If your community group or organisation has a project that needs funding then it may be worthwhile applying for the 2026–27 Community Grants Program, with applications open until Monday 14 September 2026. The program supports projects that strengthen communities, encourage environmental sustainability, and promote social connection, health and wellbeing, and cultural diversity across the shire.

Community groups can apply for East Gippsland’s 2026-27 Community Grants Program, offering funding up to $20,000 for community, environmental and wellbeing projects until September 14

Community grants open

Two funding categories are available:

• Small Grants of up to $3,000 for community strengthening activities, governance enhancements, training and development, promotions, and small equipment purchases
• Impact Grants of between $3,001 and $20,000 for larger community development or environmental sustainability initiatives

Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the program continued to deliver real, visible benefits for towns right across East Gippsland. "Every year we see this program turn great community ideas into real projects - from the Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club purchasing larger boards to ensure older children can participate in its programs, through to working bees and a new dishwasher at a community hall," Cr Ashworth said.

"This funding doesn't just support the project itself; it supports the volunteers and groups who give up their time to make East Gippsland a better place to live. I'd encourage every community group with an idea, big or small, to consider applying," said Cr Ashworth.

Community projects funded

Last year's round funded a wide range of projects, including the Friends of the Mitta's annual ‘Give Back to the Mitta’ volunteer weekend, which brought more than 100 volunteers from across Victoria to Anglers Rest to carry out river access, campground and trail maintenance in partnership with Parks Victoria, capped off with a community BBQ and live music.

Also funded was Knit for Charity Lakes Entrance, an informal local group that used their grant to purchase yarn to knit blankets, hats and clothing for distribution to those in need. Council encourages groups applying for the first time to register on the SmartyGrants platform ahead of submitting an application. Guidelines and a tip sheet for applicants are available on council's website.
