Celebrating Gippsland authors

More than 25 local authors and illustrators from across Gippsland took part, showcasing everything from local history, flora and fauna and cookbooks to children’s stories and adult fiction. Mr Chester said the event was a terrific celebration of local creative talent and the important role independent businesses play in bringing communities together.

"Schoolworks is much more than a local bookshop, and Charlotte Tiffin and her team have created something really special for Bairnsdale. The Big Bairnsdale Book Bazaar gave local authors and illustrators a chance to showcase their work, meet readers and connect with the broader community. It was also a great way to encourage people of all ages to discover new books and celebrate a love of reading and writing," he said.

Celebrating local literacy initiatives

Award-winning children’s author Andrea Rowe, who is also Victoria’s first Public Libraries Ambassador, attended the event and hosted free workshops. Mr Chester said Schoolworks continued to make a strong contribution to East Gippsland through its support for literacy, education and local families.

"Charlotte is passionate about literacy and encouraging people of all ages to read, and that was reflected throughout the event. Small businesses like Schoolworks do much more than sell products. They create opportunities, support local people and help build stronger communities. Well done to Charlotte and the Schoolworks team for backing local authors, celebrating local creativity and bringing something new to Bairnsdale," Mr Chester said.
