Baw Baw Australia Day Awards nominations open, recognising local heroes, organisations and events, voting is until 30 October 2026Baw Baw Shire Council has opened nominations for the 2027 Australia Day Awards, recognising outstanding citizens, young people, organisations and community events making contributions locally. By news@gippsland - 6th October 2026 - Back to News Baw Baw’s 2027 Australia Day Awards nominations are now open, with community members encouraged to nominate local heroes who have made outstanding contributions to Baw Baw Shire. Baw Baw Shire Council Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson reinforced the importance of recognising those who make a difference. The Australia Day Awards are a time for us to recognise those in our community who dedicate their time to helping others, who go that extra step and truly make a difference to life in Baw Baw."

- Community Organisation of the Year
- Community Event of the Year
"If a community member, community organisation or event has left a positive impact on you, show your appreciation by nominating them for an Australia Day Award," said Cr Wilson. How to nominateNominations can be made online via a short submission form. Alternatively, a print form can be completed at the customer service centres in Drouin and Warragul. When submitting a nomination, community members must provide responses to various questions relating to the recipient including qualities that make them stand out, details of their contributions and the positive impact they’ve made to the local community. Nominations are open until 12pm on Friday 30 October 2026. Each recipient nomination will be considered and assessed against eligibility criteria by a panel consisting of the Mayor, Councillors and Council officers who will select the most outstanding nominee in each category.
