Surf Parade shared path moves forward as Bass Coast Shire Council investigates two-way road and carparking design in InverlochBass Coast Shire Council will soon begin construction of the Surf Parade Shared Path in Inverloch, with completion expected by Christmas, while investigating costs and community support for two-way road and carparking. By news@gippsland - 18th September 2026 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council has made another step forward towards the completion of the Surf Parade Shared Path in Inverloch. The path will begin construction shortly and is anticipated to be completed by Christmas. Recent investigations show that the current road reserve can accommodate the shared path, two-way road and carparking. This is now the council's preferred design. 
Construction will soon begin on the Surf Parade Shared Path, with the preferred design accommodating two-way traffic and carparking, requiring service relocations Surf Parade optionsTo achieve this design, the road alignment would extend into the existing nature strips along this section of Surf Parade and require the relocation of services. Council is currently determining costs for the service relocations and will be speaking to affected residents and property owners along this stretch of Surf Parade before a report comes back in February for council to consider the results of the consultation and the cost estimate. Cr Brett Tessari explained that the decision from this month’s meeting gave officers endorsement to further investigate the two-way road option with carparking. "We’ve heard from the community that the two-way road and carparking option is what they want and it is the council's preferred option." "We know it is possible to fit all of it into the road reserve. It's now just a matter of how much it will cost to relocate the services along that stretch of road and whether the residents along Surf Parade are happy with this option," Cr Tessari said. Pathway works underwayCr Tessari said, "The exciting part is that the final pathway section will be underway very soon and finished in time for the Christmas and the busy summer season. That’s the only bit that doesn’t change depending on what the outcome of the parking investigations is, the path can only go in one place so we’re getting on and doing that bit to complete the missing link," Cr Tessari explained. "It means that you’ll be able to use the shared path that will link to the new Inverloch Wonthaggi Trail travel from the town centre of Inverloch all the way to Wonthaggi and vice versa which is a great attraction," he said.
