Becon Constructions awarded $21M contract to build Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct library and learning centreBecon Constructions has secured a $21 million contract to deliver Warragul new Library and Learning Centre, part of Baw Baw Shire $30 million Culture and Connection Precinct, expected to open in early 2028. By news@gippsland - 15th October 2026 - Back to News Following an Expression of Interest process in 2025, Becon Constructions (Becon) has been awarded the contract to design and construct the Baw Baw Culture and Connection Precinct - Library and Learning Centre project. Becon was previously awarded the contract for early works of the site as part of an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process and began site preparation works following the sod turn on Monday 28 September 2026.
Becon Constructions secured a $21 million contract after early site works, advancing Warragul $30 million library project shaped by years of community consultation Civic precinct takes shapeThe ECI process engaged the builder early to help refine the design, manage risks and costs, and plan project delivery. During the early works, Becon submitted a detailed submission for the main works and has been awarded a combined sum of $21,029,946 for the early works and main works. Breaking ground on the $30 million community facility is the result of years of strategic planning and community collaboration. Since the development of the Baw Baw Civic Precinct Masterplan in 2020, consultation with the community has helped guide the design, with a new Library and Learning Centre emerging as one of the project's most important priorities. Council celebrates progressBaw Baw Shire Council Mayor Cr Kate Wilson welcomes the progression of the site. "Seeing this project coming to life after so much time and work between Council and the community is really something special," said Cr Wilson. "Becon has been an outstanding partner from the outset. Their enthusiasm for this project and genuine understanding of its importance to the community was evident throughout the tender process and early works. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership as we deliver this landmark facility for the community," said Cr Wilson. New community facilityThe facility, expected to begin operation in early 2028, includes a new library, creative and interactive spaces, community meeting rooms, co-working spaces and a public terrace. The site is located on the corner of Albert Street and Civic Place in Warragul, adjacent to the West Gippsland Arts Centre and Civic Park. The community will be kept informed as the project progresses, including where construction works may result in temporary changes to access, traffic or other conditions around the area.
