By news@gippsland - 22nd October 2026 - Back to News Major works transforming Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe have been celebrated by community members and project partners coming together to mark the significant progress made on the sporting precinct’s upgrade. Funded through the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, the project has already delivered a range of major improvements across the reserve.
Judi Buhagiar, Netball Victoria; Jane Van Den Dolder, Moe Football Netball Club; Harriet Shing MP, Member for Eastern Victoria Region; Brad Law, Facilities Manager, Moe Football Netball Club; Cr Sharon Gibson, Mayor, Latrobe City Council; Michael Walshe, Treasurer, Moe Football Netball Club; Breanna Lever, Captain, Moe Women’s Cricket Team (Championship Division); and Wayne Mills, Latrobe Valley Cricket Association celebrate the upgrades at Ted Summerton Reserve, Moe Enhancing sports facilitiesOnce finished, the upgraded precinct will cement Ted Summerton Reserve’s position as one of Gippsland’s leading sporting venues. The project has delivered significant improvements across the reserve, including a new netball pavilion and undercover terracing, female-friendly improvements to the existing pavilion, a Changing Places facility, improved accessibility features, new oval lighting and video scoreboard, upgraded sports field infrastructure, oval reconstruction works and enhanced cricket training facilities. As a key regional sporting hub, Ted Summerton Reserve is home to the Moe Football Netball Club, Moe Cricket Club, the Moe Fire Brigade and the Gippsland Regional Cricket Centre of Excellence. The improvements will increase the precinct’s capacity to host local, regional and high-level sporting events while creating a better experience for players, officials, volunteers and spectators. Community celebrates upgradesLatrobe City Mayor Councillor Sharon Gibson said the upgrades were a significant milestone for the community. "This is a great day for our community and our local sporting clubs. When you look at where this facility was 15 years ago and where it is today, the change is incredible. We now have a venue that can host major football and cricket events, while still being a home for our local clubs and players." "The new lighting means we can attract more large events, including night matches and showcase Latrobe City to a wider audience. One of the best things about these upgrades is that local kids can watch their sporting heroes play right here in their own backyard. These improvements will make a real difference for players, volunteers, officials and spectators and they'll benefit our community for many years to come," Cr Gibson said. Cr Gibson thanked the Victorian Government for its funding support, along with the sporting clubs, volunteers, project partners and local contractors who helped bring the project to life. The upgrades will support increased participation in sport and recreation, improve accessibility and inclusion, enhance the region's ability to host major sporting events and deliver ongoing economic benefits for Latrobe City through event visitation and tourism.
