The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien says construction of three additional groynes at Loch Sport is anticipated to begin in late spring. The Minister for Environment, Jaclyn Symes, provided the timeframe in response to enquiries from Mr O’Brien about further erosion protection works west of the Seagull Drive boat ramp.

Mr O’Brien said, "Loch Sport residents deserve to be kept up to date on these long-awaited works. The Minister has now advised that detailed designs are complete with construction anticipated to commence in late spring. I will be keeping pressure on the Carroll Labor Government to ensure the works proceed."

The additional groynes will help protect the Lake Victoria shoreline west of the boat ramp, building on the three groynes constructed near the ramp and car park in 2025. "The works already completed were a positive step, but residents know there is more to do to address erosion along the foreshore. The next stage will provide further protection for an area that is important to locals and visitors alike," Mr O’Brien said.

Mr O’Brien said he would continue following up on the project on behalf of the Loch Sport community. "I have fought alongside residents for action on coastal erosion for many years. They deserve to see that persistence followed by progress on the ground."
