Coalition commits billions to regional growth as One Gippsland tracks local election pledges across key priorities
One Gippsland is tracking key federal election commitments, with major Coalition investments in regional infrastructure aligning with the region's priorities and local ALP and Coalition pledges also announced.
The 2025 Federal Election campaign is in full swing and it's now less than a week until pre-polling opens next Tuesday. One Gippsland has met with local candidates and has been monitoring regional policy announcements and local funding commitments of importance to our region.
The Coalition will boost rural health by delivering more regional doctors and developing a long-term strategy to meet community needs
Backing regional priorities
Over the past week, the Coalition has made two significant announcements that align with One Gippsland's election priorities. The Deputy Opposition Leader and Leader of the Nationals David Littleproud on Monday announced the Coalition would invest $1 billion to enable local councils to prioritise and deliver critical community infrastructure and road projects. The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program would be delivered through two $500 million funding streams:
- Resilience and Community Infrastructure Stream - open to all councils to help strengthen communities against natural disasters and fund essential infrastructure to support local growth
- Roads Stream - targeted to regional councils to fix potholes, maintain and improve local roads
Last Friday, Mr Littleproud unveiled the $20 billion Regional Australia Future Fund, which would create an estimated annual funding stream of $1 billion for regional, rural and remote Australia.
Investing in regions
The Regional Australia Future Fund aims to fix roads and transport networks, invest in childcare, develop regional industries, grow tourism, and build and upgrade economic and community infrastructure, facilities and services, particularly those operated by councils.
On a local level, the ALP has promised $3 million to plan essential road network upgrades for Warragul and Drouin, while the Coalition has pledged $3 million to improve mobile blackspots on Phillip Island and in Korumburra and Leongatha.
Tracking election commitments
To get an overall picture of the election commitments made to date, we've prepared an election tracker that compares commitments from the major parties, which are able to make funded announcements, across a range of key policy areas, including the cost of living, roads and freight, renewables and new energy, housing, digital connectivity, health, skills and education.
We'll update the tracker with the latest announcements that align with One Gippsland's election priorities until election day. To stay up-to-date with the latest from the hustings. You can also take another look at One Gippsland's election priorities via Pre election / Pre submission 2025 - 26.
