Leisure Numbers Up As Latrobe’S Facilities Continue To ImproveLatrobe City Council’s continued focus on improvement and innovation has resulted in the delivery of the indoor leisure facilities upgrade program for the 2010/11 financial year. By Latrobe City - 24th August 2011 - Back to News Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White explained that the program has been the key factor in ensuring Latrobe City’s leisure facilities are quality venues.
"This program has been vital in funding many projects across the municipality during the past financial year to ensure our community has continued access to high class leisure facilities.
"This investment is clearly paying off with patronage and memberships at our centres increasing by just over 10% over the past year," Cr White said.
Whilst Latrobe Leisure Churchill has had the most significant upgrade, with the $4.8m redevelopment being finalised; all other Latrobe Leisure facilities also received a slice of the pie. $400,000 was spent through the upgrade program in 2010/11 across all other Latrobe Leisure centres.
"Delivering on Latrobe City Council’s commitment to providing high class Leisure facilities, Latrobe Leisure Morwell has undergone a make-over with brand new change room facilities and new carpet laid throughout the centre.
"The upgrade has been extremely well received by patrons, particularly the many visitors we have to the centre that have disabilities with dedicated facilities now available to meet their specific needs.
"Latrobe Leisure Moe/Newborough has undergone significant change room upgrades ensuring patrons have access to state of the art facilities including a dedicated family change room and as with Morwell, a dedicated disabled change room," Cr White explained.
Traralgon Sports Stadium has long provided high class indoor courts that are used for an array of sports including basketball, netball and badminton. As part of the upgrade program, the courts were drum sanded and resealed to ensure the best possible playing surface is provided for sporting groups and patrons.
"These improvements will go a long way in ensuring Traralgon Sports Stadium continues to attract high quality sports teams and events to the stadium.
"A further $650,000 has been allocated in this financial year for projects that will further develop the centres and provide patrons with high class leisure facilities. Scheduled projects for this financial year include the re-tiling of the main pool at Latrobe Leisure Morwell; the replacement of the pool roof at Latrobe Leisure Churchill and improvements to the main show court at Traralgon.
"This program and the projects undertaken and planned signify Latrobe City Council’s ongoing commitment to providing our community with world class leisure facilities and encouraging active living as well as participation in recreation and sports activities," Cr White concluded.
