Latrobe Valley Jobs Fair in Morwell on 10 March to bring job seekers and employment providers together
Job seekers from across the Gippsland Employment Region will have the chance to chat to employers face to face when the Morrison Government's Latrobe Valley.
Jobs Fair returns to Morwell on Thursday 10 March, bringing together job seekers, employers, employment providers and industry bodies, jobs fairs are helping the economy bounce back from the effects of COVID-19. Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, the Hon Stuart Robert MP, said there were skill shortages across Australia including in the Latrobe Valley and the Gippsland Employment Region.

Helping people find work
Minister Robert said, "There has never been a better time to be looking for work. The fair will include practical information on what employers are looking for and how to transform your resume into a job-winning document."
Assistant Minister for Youth and Employment Services, the Hon Luke Howarth MP, said the fairs had been held around Australia for four years now and had been successful in connecting thousands of job seekers with those looking to hire.
Assistant Minister Howarth also said,"More than 63,500 people have attended 56 jobs fairs since they began in 2018. We want to help as many people from the Latrobe Valley and surrounding regions as possible to find work and improve their prospects, through upskilling and reskilling. Job fairs are proving to be highly effective in helping us achieve this goal."
Providing more opportunities
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the jobs fairs are a welcome boost for local job seekers as the Gippsland Employment Region recovers from challenges like the Black Summer bushfires and COVID-19 pandemic.
"Parts of the Gippsland economy, including construction, meat processing, IT, aged care and disability services, are finding it hard to obtain suitably skilled local staff. Some areas of the resources sector are in decline, but we expect that several planned solar, wind and hydrogen energy projects will create large-scale labour demands, so there are plenty of opportunities." Mr Chester said.
A successful jobs fair was held in the Gippsland Employment Region, in Morwell, in late 2019. The latest jobs fair will offer more opportunities for the region, which includes Latrobe City, Bass Coast Shire, Baw Baw Shire, East Gippsland Shire, South Gippsland Shire and the Wellington Shire. The Latrobe Valley Jobs Fair is a free event and runs from 10 am to 3 pm at Kernot Hall. Registrations are encouraged but not essential
