Outdoor pools open Saturday 3 DecemberLatrobe City’s three outdoor pools, Traralgon, Moe and Yallourn North, will open for an extended summer season on Saturday, 3 December 2005. By Latrobe City Council - 29th November 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City’s three outdoor pools, Traralgon, Moe and Yallourn North, will open for an extended summer season on Saturday, 3 December 2005.
To celebrate the launch of the season, visitors to the pools on launch day will enjoy free entry between 10am and 12noon.
Launch day at the outdoor pools is always great fun and this year will be no exception. The pools will hold sausage sizzles, music, games for all and a range of demonstrations and displays from local clubs and sporting groups as well as wide range of services that each pool offers.
The three pools will be open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day until the Monday of the Labour Day weekend in 2006.
Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said there are a number of activities planned for the summer season, giving Latrobe’s residents and visitors optimum opportunities to enjoy the municipality’s aquatic facilities.
"Each facility offers a unique setting and something for all the family to enjoy. For the second year running, the outdoor pool season extends well beyond ‘back to school’ time, so that residents can cool off on hot days in February right through to the March holiday weekend.
"Latrobe Leisure has also made a commitment to remain open for all specified times, with the option to extend opening hours if hot weather days are forecast," Mr Buckley said.
For those who enjoy frequent visits to the outdoor pools, a season pass becomes better value than ever this year. Costing $160 for a family, $80 for an adult; or $50 for concession card holders, full time students over 16 years and children aged 5-15 years. The season pass includes entry to all three outdoor pool venues so that swimmers can really enjoy the range of facilities offered at each pool.
Latrobe City’s leisure centre coordinator, Georgina Mitchell, said each of the outdoor pools had its own particular attractions.
"Yallourn North offers solar heated water, meaning that the water temperature remains around 25 degrees. It’s ideal for the start of the season when the weather can be a bit cooler. The warmer waters are also ideal for younger children, scheduled birthday parties and days where the weather may be a little cooler," Ms Mitchell said.
"Yallourn North is also a great venue for summer birthday parties offering a party room, catering facilities and games console, as well as the swimming facilities. Packages are available for groups of 10 children upwards. Contact Moe Newborough Sports Centre or Yallourn North Pool for more information.
"Yallourn North and Traralgon both have toddler pools, offering ample shade and an area away from older children and other swimmers for younger children to have fun in the water," Ms Mitchell said.
"Moe offers a diving pool for those swimmers who are a little more adventurous, and an on-site volleyball court encourages family games and provides an alternative activity to swimming. Free barbecue facilities are also available as well snacks and drinks which can be purchased from the kiosk.
"At Traralgon, families can enjoy the toddler pool, free barbecue facilities, a volley ball court and pleasant spots on the lawn in the shade," Ms Mitchell added.
Ms Mitchell said that movie nights have also been scheduled for this season at the outdoor pools. "Yallourn North will hold its screening on 23 December at 6.30pm; Traralgon on 21 January at 6.30pm and Moe on 18 February at 6.30pm. Screenings and additional information will be advertised closer to the dates,’ Ms Mitchell said.
Opening hours at the outdoor pools will be 3.30pm – 5.30pm weekdays and 12 noon – 5.30pm at weekends from 3 December – 21 December 2005; and from 30 January – 13 March 2006. From December 2005 – 29 January 2006, opening hours will be 12noon – 5.30pm daily (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day).
