Marsha Thomson, Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology, said that the uptake of new technologies is crucial to the future growth of Victorian businesses.

"From June 2002 to December 2003, over 1,400 small to medium businesses have received training by attending Roadshow events like this one being held in Warragul.

"People attending the workshops have told us that they’ve got a lot out of the sessions.

"Almost 50 per cent of participants have gone on to implement an eCommerce strategy for their business – which is pleasing, as it shows that there is obviously a need for this type of training.

"Through the eCommerce Roadshows, the Victorian Government is working with businesses to address topics such as Internet use today, online banking, website design, website content management, supply chain management, online marketing, Online Security and SPAM policies.

"The free session to be held in Warragul, will appeal to a wide cross section of business owners due to the variety of topics," said Ms Thomson.

The workshop will be held at the Stage Door Restaurant, West Gippsland Arts Centre Warragul, Tuesday August 3rd 2004. The session commences at 7.00am and finishes at 10.30am. Breakfast will be provided. The workshop will be limited to forty participants.

Under the e-Commerce Roadshow program, the Victorian Government funds local business associations, councils and chambers of commerce to deliver free, practical and interactive eCommerce workshops and seminars that are tailored to meet the specific needs of individual areas.

Ms Thomson said the Government had so far committed more than $410,000 of funding to the program.

The Victorian Government’s e-Commerce Roadshows are a part of its Connecting Victoria strategy, which aims to share the benefits of technology with all Victorians.
