National Director for the Australian Institute of Company Directors, former Morwell resident and Australia Business Arts Foundation Councillor, Mr Terry Budge, will be guest speaker to celebrate the culmination of Latrobe City’s participation in the foundation’s Council Arts Business Program.

Latrobe City has delivered programming to facilitate long term partnerships of mutual strategic benefit between individuals and organisations in the arts and business sectors. The partnerships have enhanced and promoted the creative and innovative capacities for both sectors to benefit each other.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White said that14 Business Arts partnerships comprising over 31 partners have been either initiated or further developed during the 18 months since Latrobe City commenced the program.

"We have professional people forming creative partnerships where the arts are being shown to add real value to the cultural life and economic viability of our local community. Through the program, and with assistance from Latrobe City’s Arts Unit, we have been able to present this philosophy to our artists and arts organisations in a very tailored way. Now they have developed greater confidence to market themselves more effectively," Cr White said.

Latrobe City’s Arts Innovation Facilitator, Lynette Raven, said she was sure Thursday’s guests would benefit from having Terry Budge as guest speaker.

"Terry was born and educated in Morwell before his tertiary studies in Melbourne. He was Group Managing Director of BankWest from 1997 to earlier this year and has previously worked at National Australia Bank for 25 years in a number of senior executive roles including State Manager QLD, NSW and ACT, General Manager Group Strategic Development and Chief Economist. His family owned and operated an extensive wholesale and retail butcher business in Latrobe Valley and Terry has experienced the transition from small business to Australia’s corporate world in which business relationships are based on effective and strategic networking. He is now a member of the Federal government’s Financial Sector Advisory Council and a Director of Leadership Western Australia," Ms Raven said.

"During the evening, Terry will launch the Latrobe Business Arts book which celebrates successful Business Arts partnerships established through Latrobe City. Terry will also provide an opportunity for small businesses to network as the first step to establishing a Latrobe City Small Business Network. This will continue the initial work in this area that was assisted by funding from the Victorian government’s Ministerial Taskforce several years ago."
