Latrobe Regional Gallery’s Acting Curator, Sherryn Vardy said that artist Sadie Chandler and exhibition curator Vanessa McCrae would be present to discuss the artworks on show.

"Following morning refreshments at 11.30am, Sadie will begin her talk at 12 noon, discussing her car wall painting and animations, followed by exhibition curator Vanessa McRae talking about the ‘Supercharged’ exhibition.

"From 1pm Peter Weir’s film ‘The Cars That Ate Paris’ will be shown," Ms Vardy explained.

"There will be a ‘show ‘n’ shine’ during the day where visitors can check out local street machines, hot rods and custom cars. Visitors can also bring photographs of their favorite street machine for the pin up board and win prizes from ‘Street Machine’ magazine," Ms Vardy added.

Ms Vardy said that ‘Supercharged’ brings together the work of twelve leading Australian artists exploring the car’s iconic status in Australian life: Roderick Bunter, Sadie Chandler, Bill Henson, Martin Mischkulnig, Tracey Moffatt, Ben Morieson, Louise Paramor, Patricia Piccinini, Scott Redford, Tim Ryan, Daniel Wallwork and Anne Zahalka.

"Included in the exhibition is a video game by Ben Morieson in which participants can do their own ‘burn out’. Paintings, video animation, photography, sculpture and DVDs also feautre in the exhibition. There are a variety of materials used in the making of these works that are common in car manufacture including real car doors, automotive paint, fibreglass and stainless steel," Ms Vardy explained.

"The car has played a pivitol role in Australian cultural life and is more than practical, it is symbolic, a marker of status and identity and has provided freedom. This exhibtiion is a must for car lovers and enthusiasts and continues until Sunday 10 December," Ms Vardy concluded.

‘Supercharged: the car in contemporary art’ is an Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane exhibition, supported by Visions Australia and the Gordon Darling Foundation.
