secure drinking water supplies for Eagle Point and Paynesville customers.

The initiative forms part of the corporation’s commitment to ensure all its customers have a secure, water supply for the next 50 years, taking into account the potential impact of climate change, extreme weather events and population growth in the region. The tanks will reduce the potential for water to be lost through evaporation and water leakage, as well as protecting stored supplies from bacterial and air borne contamination.

Work has commenced on the site, next to the Paynesville Road, to prepare for the first of the tanks, which will be installed temporarily next to the open storage. Capable of holding up to six megalitres of water (equivalent to approximately six Olympic size swimming pools) this will be used to store the drinking water supplies for Paynesville and Eagle Point over the coming summer months while the open air storage itself is decommissioned and emptied. The tank will then be relocated to its permanent position inside the walls of the storage, next to a second covered six megalitre tank – providing for a combined drinking water storage capacity totalling 12 megalitres.
