Ms Stevenson was recognised for her commitment to excellence in innovation, strategy development, people leadership and operational management. The prize money is to be used to foster and develop leadership ability within the organisation.

The award was designed to foster leadership in the Victorian local government sector by recognising outstanding leadership initiatives that make a positive contribution to the organisation’s efficiency and effectiveness while enhancing the workplace environment for all employees.

Ms Stevenson was nominated by a fellow Latrobe City employee on behalf of the organisation. Her submission was then judged by Leadership Victoria, on criteria including innovation, creativity and outcomes for the community.

Latrobe City CEO, Paul Buckley, said that the SACS Award attracts a very high standard of submission and taps into the view that recognition of leadership in the vital local government sector was overdue.

"For one of our managers to receive such a highly acclaimed award is very encouraging, we would like to believe that it is a true reflection upon Latrobe City as an organisation," said Mr Buckley.

"We are extremely proud to have such a fine manager on board and we wish Ms Stevenson our congratulations," concluded Mr Buckley.

The three runners up included Mark Drew, Manager Customer Relations and Place Management at City of Melbourne, for his contribution to the revitalisation of the City of Melbourne and in particular the Melbourne Visitors Centre; Stuart Nesbitt, Sustainable Resources Technical Officers at Hume City Council, for his enthusiastic contribution to promoting environmentally sustainable practices within Council and the wider Hume community; and Sally Isaac, Manager Culture & Community at City of Yarra, for developing an innovative and inclusive community action plan for the City of Yarra.

They have each received a place on the Leadership Victoria Board Orientation Programme, a course that focuses on the functions of boards and how they work.
