Great team asset
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said staff believe Robert has helped 10,400 visitors and locals to explore Latrobe City and surrounds over the years. "He is dedicated, reliable, knowledgeable and a great asset to the team. Many people have been able to see our wonderful City in greater depth thanks to Robert's expertise and passion," she said.
Robert's favourite destination within Latrobe City is the Gippsland Immigration Park at Kernot Hall, Morwell for the inspirational stories told by signs around Morwell Lake. "I enjoy reading about where the immigrants came from and how they've made a new life in Gippsland, as well as discovering stories about the region's indigenous history," he said.
As a volunteer, Robert has taken part in familiarisation tours of the region. "I enjoy helping people and telling people about the area. I'm surprised how many people do not know about the area, even the locals," he said.
Be a volunteer
Volunteers with Council require a Working With Children Check and a Police Check. Council welcomes volunteers who can provide excellent customer service and enjoy promoting our wonderful region. People wishing to volunteer can email visitorcentre@latrobe.vic.gov.au or phone 1800 621 409 or 5176 3344.
