pathway connecting the Morwell primary school, Morwell Skate Park and Commercial Road shopping precinct.

Mr Northe said ¡§The $105,000 Morwell Skate Park Pathway and Community Shelter project was the result of feedback from local Morwell residents and would be built in conjunction with the skate park.

¡§The community has asked for an area where families can meet in a picnic setting, the kids can have some fun, and parents can watch on from a comfortable setting - this project will deliver this in spades,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§The BBQ and shelter area next to the skate park will provide shade, shelter and amenity for families in all weather conditions.¡¨

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Sandy Kam, said the community would benefit from the new infrastructure.

¡§Providing a BBQ, shelter and pathway at the skate park would mean more than just a physical connection for the community. The whole area will be interlinked, providing leisure and recreation opportunities for local residents and visitors alike. Well designed, well thought out infrastructure projects like this foster a flow through the town that brings the community together,¡¨ Cr Kam said.

Mr Northe said the pathway would reinforce the eastern end of the Morwell CBD as a cohesive precinct by linking together important community aspects.

¡§Once the pathway is completed residents will be able to shop in the precinct and then have direct access to the BBQ area for lunch while at the same time providing kids with the skate park to burn off the endless energy they often have.

The Putting Locals First Program is part of the Victorian Coalition Government¡¦s $1 billion Regional Growth Fund and will contribute $70,000 towards the project with funding partner Latrobe City Council, putting forward $35,000.

Mr Northe said the Victorian Government¡¦s support for the project demonstrated its commitment to driving development across the state to ensure regional Victoria remained a key contributor to future growth and prosperity.

¡§The Regional Growth Fund supports community-led local initiatives such as this that improve both the competitiveness and liveability of regional and rural Victoria,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§At the end of July, the Regional Growth Fund had supported 1143 projects worth a total of more than $1.4 billion. In Latrobe City, the Regional Growth Fund had provided $14.8 million to 42 projects worth $45.6 million.¡¨

Through the PLFP a number of local projects have been supported including:

„h Funding towards the redevelopment of Yallourn North Town Hall.

„h $190,000 for an amenity and infrastructure upgrade to Traralgon¡¦s Victory park precinct.
