South Gippsland Shire Council implements General Local Law from 15 April 2024 to improve community safety and environmental quality
South Gippsland Shire Council announces the adoption of the 2024 General Local Law, effective April 15, 2024, focusing on community safety, environmental quality, and efficient administration. Contact details for inquiries provided.
The 2024 General Local Law will take effect soon. Notice is given, pursuant to section 74 of the Local Government Act 2020, that at its meeting held on 20 March 2024 South Gippsland Shire Council resolved to make the General Local Law 2024 applying throughout the municipal district.

Local law objectives
The Local Law will take effect from 15 April 2024. The objectives of this Local Law are to:
- Provide for the peace order and good government of the municipal district
- Regulate and control activities which may be dangerous, unsafe or detrimental to the quality of life in the environment of the municipal district
- Provide a safe and healthy environment in which the residents of the municipal district enjoy a quality of life that meets the general expectations of the community
- Facilitate the provision of general public services, health and other community services, property services, recreational and cultural services, and other
- services in a way which enhances the environment and quality of life in the municipal district
- Provide for the administration of council's powers and functions
