New Grounds For Fun At Preschool

The children at the Murray Road Preschool in Newborough have lots of reasons to have fun outside at kinder – a brand new yard including fairy garden and bridge, picnic benches, a train, shed and basketball court.

Preschool Director, Debra Keay said that many local companies had donated money and items to help the preschool to construct the new yard.

"At the beginning of the year, Council removed some gum trees from the grounds which were causing some concerns following the summer storms and this left us with a fairly bare looking yard. The parent committee came up with some ideas to inject new life into the grounds.

"TruEnergy donated a substantial sum for us to build a fairy garden, which was designed by Megan Robinson, president of the parent committee. We have planted flowers and the children and their families have collected various fairies and other ornaments over time to add to the garden," Ms Keay explained.

President of the parent committee, Megan Robinson said that to complete the design, the Valley Christian Centre in Morwell donated a wooden fairy bridge for the children to walk over and enjoy.

"It really adds a special touch to the fairy garden. We were also fortunate to receive a donation of five picnic benches made by the Work Focus Group in Traralgon, and we have a new wooden train for the children to sit in which was made by DCM Engineering in Newborough," Ms Robinson added.

"During the course of creating the new yard, we had a new shed erected and we were able to use the old concrete slab from the former shed as a basketball court. AnTDig helped lay the foundations and erected the new shed and basketball court," Ms Robinson said.

Ms Keay said that it was very much a community effort to get the garden looking so good.

"The parent committee did a great job in getting local companies to donate goods and services and the children now have a yard which is fun and exciting to play in," Ms Keay concluded.
