Soundshell to feature ‘Movies in the Park’Latrobe City, Telstra Country Wide and Big Pond Movies will be hosting a series of outdoor film screenings at the Loy Yang Power Latrobe Community Soundshell throughout January and February. By Latrobe City - 16th January 2007 - Back to News The free community events will involve the provision of a large inflatable mobile outdoor movie screen and sound system at the soundshell.
Latrobe City deputy mayor, Cr David Wilson, said ‘Movies in the Park’ is a great initiative where the whole community can enjoy some great entertainment in the relaxed surrounds of Victory Park.
Cr Wilson suggested that the first of the screenings, scheduled for Australia Day Eve at the soundshell, will be a great way to commence the Australia Day weekend’s celebrations.
"The ‘Movies in the Park’ concept has been developed to appeal to all members of our community. We would like to encourage people of all ages to enjoy the free event and join us in launching the weekend’s activities in a family-friendly environment," Cr Wilson said.
Those attending the film screening are advised to take picnic rugs or chairs for comfort. Snacks and soft drinks will be available for purchase during the evening. ‘Movies in the Park’ is an alcohol free event.
Featuring the blockbuster Pixar production ‘Cars’, the Thursday 25 January screening will commence at dusk to maximise picture quality.
The animated story follows ‘Lightning McQueen’, a rookie racing sensation whose life in the fast lane has left him little time for friends. On his way to what could possibly be the most important race in his young life, Lightning runs into some trouble with the law and finds himself forced to spend time in Radiator Springs, a tiny town located off of the legendary Route 66.
City Promotions coordinator, Danny McDonald, said that the inaugural ‘Movies in the Park’ night is hoped to be the forerunner of other similar events in the future.
"These events have proven to be hugely successful in a number of outer-Melbourne municipalities, and we are expecting a similar community response in Latrobe City," Mr McDonald said.
"At this stage a second ‘Movies in the Park’ event has been scheduled for Saturday 10 February, featuring the recently released remake of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’," Mr McDonald added.
