Latrobe City gets $2M pledge to enhance sporting infrastructure from Minister Dimopoulos
Latrobe City Council, with Minister Dimopoulos, pledges to upgrade sporting infrastructure, enhancing community participation, fostering economic growth, and promoting collaboration for effective implementation and stakeholder engagement.
Latrobe City Council welcomed Minister for Sport, Steve Dimopoulos for his announcement of a commitment to upgrade key sporting infrastructure in Latrobe as part of the Victorian government's $2 billion regional package following the cancellation of the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games. This upgrade includes sporting infrastructure at Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe, Gippsland Regional Sport and Entertainment Park in Morwell, the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium in Traralgon, and the Morwell Gun Club. This investment underscores the state's support for regional development.

Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Darren Howe said these enhancements will help expand the event calendar, attract national competitions, and increase community sports participation, fostering pathways from local clubs through to the elite level. "We have a longstanding history of collaboration with the Victorian government and welcome the promise of infrastructure improvement, which will bring substantial economic benefits for local businesses and tourism, and importantly, a sense of community pride."
"We are committed to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of these initiatives for the community's benefit. To support this, council has endorsed the formation of Project Reference Groups comprising councillors, local club, and sporting associations to oversee these projects. These groups will ensure stakeholder engagement. Council is also collaborating with sports partners to develop activation plans for each venue, maximising their potential to host major events upon completion," said Mayor Howe.
Council will continue to work with the government to ensure that this commitment to regional development is delivered, and that the best outcomes are afforded to our community.
