Events for absolutely everybody!With Social Inclusion Week and International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) coming up on the calendar, Bass Coast Shire Council is celebrating with a range of activities here in Bass Coast. By Portal Admin - 7th November 2016 - Back to News Social Inclusion Week, celebrated from 21 to 29 November and IDPwD, celebrated on 3 December, promote opportunities and activities for people of all abilities to feel included and valued in their local communities.
These events also acknowledge the achievements and contributions of people with disability.
Council’s General Manager Healthy Communities and Governance, David Elder, said this year’s theme for Social Inclusion Week is 'Collaborate, Connect and Celebrate'.
"It’s about connecting local communities, workmates, family and friends in order to build and strengthen relationships and networks," Mr Elder said.
"The theme also addresses isolation and exclusion by supporting people who may be unable to help themselves."
This year, the following events are being held in November and December in Bass Coast.
Fun in the Park
The South Coast Access Alliance helps to raise community awareness around the benefits of including people with a disability in recreation and leisure activities, and also creates opportunities for people with a disability to get involved in local sport and recreation.
South Coast Access Alliance is running ‘Fun in the Park’ at the Wonthaggi Guide Park on Friday, 18 November from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
Activities include a performance by Cha Cha Sam, mini golf, trail walking, bocce, cycling, potting seedlings, live band, tai chi, circling dancing and more.
Everyone is invited to come along and have fun trying out the activities. Food will be available for purchase on the day.

Shearwater Festival
The Shearwater Festival is an annual event that aims to develop partnerships, cross cultural understanding and environmental awareness about the short-tailed shearwater population of Phillip Island.
This year’s event features the Shearwater Festival Concert at Churchill Island on Saturday, 26 November and the Shearwater Festival Street Parade in Thompson Avenue in Cowes on Sunday, 27 November.

South Gippsland FOCAS Barbeque
FOCAS is a psychiatric self-help and mutual support group open to consumers, carers, family members, friends and supporters.
FOCAS promotes mental health awareness, social activities and networking opportunities.
Come along and celebrate International Day of People With Disability at the Wonthaggi Guide Park on Wednesday, 7 December from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
