Thousands In Grants Will Help Make Latrobe City A Safer Place

Six crime prevention projects across Latrobe City will receive over $55,000 as part of a $1 million funding boost delivered under the latest round of the Victorian Coalition Governments Community Safety Fund grants.

Under this latest round of grants more than $1 million has been awarded to councils to fund 148 crime prevention projects across the state, including six projects right here in Latrobe City.

Member for Morwell Russell Northe said that the grants will fund projects that will improve public safety in the community.

Community Safety Fund grants of up to $10,000 have been awarded to more than 150 community organisations across Victoria, including:

„h Churchill Football Netball Club ¡V $8,562 for installation of a new alarm system, deadlocks and external lighting.

„h Tyers and District Community Association ¡V $10,000 for the installation of 3 solar powered lights.

„h Churchill Cricket Club Inc ¡V $2,753 for installation of a new security alarm system.

„h The Scout Association of Australia Victorian Branch - $7,744 for the upgrade existing security lighting for the West Traralgon Scout Hall.

„h Hazelwood Jeeralang Community Association¡V $10,000 for the design and distribution of a community brochure to strengthen community safety.

„h Morwell Football and Netball Club Inc ¡V $9,090 for the installation of roller shutters.

¡§I¡¦m delighted to be able to support local community groups to help provide safer and more secure facilities for local people,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

Under the Community Safety Fund, grants of up to $10,000 are awarded to projects in local communities across Victoria.

¡§Many of the grants are awarded to local sporting and social clubs, scout groups, community centres and neighbourhood houses to improve security to reduce the risk of theft, vandalism and anti-social behaviour,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§These facilities are the heart of our local communities, and are often managed by local volunteers, so crime and anti-social behaviour at these important community assets has a significant impact.

¡§Locals know the needs of their communities, as they are the ones who experience the problems and know the history of successful, and failed, local solutions.¡¨

This Victorian Government has now provided more than $2.8 million dollars under the Community Safety Fund to support 422 projects in local communities right across Victoria.

The Morwell electorate has had many organisations benefit from previous rounds of the Community Safety Fund grants program including;

„h Traralgon Tyers United Football Club

„h Latrobe Cricket Club

„h Hancock Victorian Plantation (HVP)

„h Morwell Primary School

The Community Safety Fund grants are part of the Victorian Government¡¦s four-year $35 million Community Crime Prevention Program, committed to supporting community action on crime prevention to help make communities across Victoria safer.
