Getting Into Business Without Getting Into TroubleSouth Gippslanders interested in purchasing a business are being encouraged to sign up for a series of State Government business workshops to be held in Leongatha that will help them avoid the common pitfalls and make informed decisions. By South Gippsland Shire Council - 2nd August 2004 - Back to News "Access to practical information and referral services is vital so our small business sector can continue to grow," said the Mayor, Cr Heather Bligh. "Small businesses are the backbone of our community and for the inexperienced operator it can be a minefield trying to strategically allocate your finances and resources to create the best results for your business."
Over 1000 people have attended the Under New Management workshops already held across metropolitan and country Victoria, including more than half in regional areas.
The Minister for Small Business, Marsha Thomson, said that feedback from these workshops had been overwhelmingly positive.
" Many of those who attended felt that the workshops helped them to better evaluate potential business opportunities and gave practical information and advice to guide them through the process."

Council Economic Development Officer Geoff Kirton commented that some of these seminars have limited places, so early registration is recommended.
"Council encourages local Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce to promote these opportunities to their members and take advantage of this expertise provided by State and Local Government," said Cr Bligh. " We also provide confidential free Small Business Counselling appointments at the Council offices on the first Wednesday of each month. These can be arranged by phoning Geoff Kirton on 5662 9277."
