Community Groups Asked About InsuranceCommunity groups asked about the impact of insurance premium increases By Carol McCormack - 11th June 2002 - Back to News Council is asking community groups about the impact that insurance premium increases or loss of cover is having on local groups and their activities.
A survey has been sent to 190 community groups. Surveys are also available from Council offices and on Council’s website.
"The financial impact of higher insurance premiums could put a strain on local groups that usually operate on a not-for-profit basis," said Jenny Churchill, Arts and Leisure Coordinator with Council.
"It would be terrible to lose the many essential local groups and their activities because of insurance issues."
Jenny said that Council believes that it has a responsibility to the community to ensure that the future of community groups is not jeopardised due to the current state of the insurance industry.
"We will use the survey results to work out which organisations are affected by the current situation and how it will impact the Bass Coast community," said Jenny.
"Council will be seeking the ongoing commitment of State and Federal governments to undertake reviews of the current insurance issues and develop long term plans to ensure things don’t get worse."
"I ask local community groups to please complete the survey and return it to Council by 24 June," said Jenny.
