Online database information sessions at librariesThe Latrobe City Library Service will be holding demonstration sessions next week highlighting the online databases available to the Latrobe community via their free public library membership. By Latrobe City Council - 23rd February 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed said that the Library Service subscribed to five online databases, which library members can use via the internet.
"Students requiring access to journal and newspaper articles will find the sessions particularly useful as the databases provide a gateway to a vast array of information resources available through Australian and international journals, books, newspapers and pictures," Cr Lougheed explained.
"Library members can find information for a school or university assignment, quality information on current events, current business information, information about medical conditions, book reviews or the latest information in a broad range of sciences," Cr Lougheed added.
Traralgon Library Co-ordinator, Claire Wood said that the demonstration sessions would focus on two of the databases while providing an overview of the features of the other databases available. "Library staff will demonstrate simple searches as well as more advanced searching techniques and how to download results. Information will also be provided on developing successful search strategies as well as evaluating information," Ms Wood concluded.
The Moe sessions will be a practical, hands-on course, so participants should have keyboard and mouse skills. The Traralgon and Morwell sessions will be demonstration sessions. Spaces will be limited so booking is essential.
The session at Moe Library will be held on Saturday 26 February from 10am to 11.30am. To register your attendance telephone Moe Library on 5135 8350.
Two sessions will run at Traralgon Library on Sunday 27 February and Monday 28 February between 4pm and 5.30pm. To register your attendance, telephone Traralgon Library on 5176 3630.
