Bass Coast Appointments

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden, has announced a number of new staff appointments.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 26th October 2007 - Back to News

"These changes are within our Infrastructure, and Community and Economic Development departments," said Mr Bawden.

"In some cases, staff members have successfully applied for jobs that had become vacant. Others are the result of some internal restructuring.

"In all cases, these are great opportunities for staff to explore new areas and extend their careers at Bass Coast," Mr Bawden continued.

A restructure in the Economic Development team has seen Peter Francis take on the role of Economic Development Manager.

"Peter previously looked after Visitor Services, which he will continue to do," said Mr Bawden.

"He will now also be responsible for events, business development and new business attraction.

"Peter has taken over the reigns from Stephanie Symes, who has stepped into a newly created position of Economic Planner."

Mr Bawden said the role of Economic Planner would focus on ways to improve the economic development of the Shire.

"We see this role working very closely with our Social Planner and the Strategic Planning team," said Mr Bawden.

"Initially, Stephanie will focus on completing a Business Development and Investment Attraction Policy.

"She will also review our Economic Strategy and continue her work on developing agribusiness in the Shire."

The role of Community Development Team Leader has been filled by Kerri Ritchie.

"Kerri has been with us for over three years, and has worked on the Walking School Bus program and, more recently, as our Rural Access Worker," said Mr Bawden.

A number of new staff have also joined Council. The newly created role, of Event Support officer, has been filled by Janine Temme.

"The amount of events taking place across the Shire has increased dramatically in the last few years," said Mr Bawden.

"In the current budget, Council approved the creation of a new position, to help manage these events.

"This will allow us to continue to support community groups and make sure our events run smoothly," continued Mr Bawden.

"Janine has extensive experience in events, production and festival work, which will be invaluable in this role."

Within the Infrastructure Department, Fred Mazyrko has been appointed to the role of Infrastructure Maintenance Manager.

"Fred is responsible for maintenance of our roads, parks, open spaces and the majority of Council’s buildings," said Mr Bawden.

"Fred previously worked for VicRoads for over 30 years, and also has experience in the private sector.

"His extensive experience in the design, delivery and maintenance of roads, and management of works teams, will be a great asset to the community."
