Grant to Bring Exhibitions to Life at Latrobe Regional GalleryLatrobe Regional Gallery preparing to bring back to life and fund local artists. By Portal Admin - 29th July 2018 - Back to News The Latrobe Regional Gallery is preparing to bring their upcoming exhibitions to life, and help locals find their inner artist, thanks to a $26,400 grant through the Victorian Government’s Engaging Audiences program.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced the grant which will support the gallery to create workshops, talks and activities inspired by upcoming exhibitions, which range from the costumes of Kylie Minogue, to the latest in digital and media art and the pioneering women of the games industry.
In October, the gallery will host a triple bill of free exhibitions, kicking off with Kylie on Stage which will showcase the stagecraft of music icon Kylie Minogue. The exhibition, which was developed by Arts Centre Melbourne and the Australian Music Vault, includes spectacular costumes, footage and items from shows dating back to 1989.
To coincide with the exhibition, the gallery will lead a dynamic program that celebrates Kylie’s work and the process of putting the exhibition together, as well as workshops that invite local creatives of all ages to hone their skills in music recording, dance and more.
Also starting in October will be a major exhibition of video-based artworks by the internationally acclaimed Melbourne artist Daniel Crooks. The exhibition will be paired with artist talks, tours and educational projects in partnership with regional schools and young video makers.
From 27 October, the gallery will host Code Breakers: Women in Games, an exhibition from the Australian Centre for the Moving Image that celebrates the women who are leading the way in the digital games industry in Australia and New Zealand.
The gallery will also seek to uncover the next generation of local games leaders through hosting coding workshops and digital art and design sessions for participants aged 8 and up.
Next year, the gallery will run specialist artist workshops and talks to coincide with the media arts exhibition Experimenta – Triennial of Media Art. The grant will also support the gallery to create three accessible guided tours to ensure that all members of the community have the opportunity to explore the exhibition.
The Engaging Audiences grant boosts the gallery’s current education and public programs and aims to give the community a greater insight into each exhibition while developing their own creative skills.
This latest grant builds on the government’s ongoing investment in Latrobe Regional Gallery of $95,000 a year, supporting its annual operations and programming.
