The program for this year’s annual Seniors Festival (9 to 13 October) is packed with music and film, sport and leisure activities as well as arts and craft. There’s something for everyone and all events are taking place in Latrobe City.

Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said the Latrobe City Senior of the Year would be announced at the Country Concert.

"This year, the Country Concert features Wendy Stapleton, who will perform ‘Dusty, Doris and Me’ a tribute show to the talents of Dusty Springfield and Doris Day. We will be presenting the winner of the Latrobe City Senior of the Year award at 10.30am, just before the show starts. Being able to formally recognise the contribution to our community of our older citizens is one of the highlights.

"On the program are a mystery bus tour, a tour of the Latrobe Regional Gallery to see the international Rene Magritte exhibition, at a reduced rate, free entry to Old Gippstown, and a chance to see the Australian musical movie 'The Sapphires'.

"And of course for those who want to get physical there are opportunities to have a try at croquet, hookey, quoits, tennis or darts. Or if you’re creative, why not come and talk to the local camera club," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"Many of the activities are free or low cost and transport is provided with some activities. Book early to make sure you can take part in your favourite activity. Visit our website at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au for more details or call 1300 367 700.

"Seniors Week is a celebration of active living and we’re pleased to be able to support that aim, here in Latrobe City," Cr O’Callaghan concluded.

Throughout the week, public transport will be free - on local and metropolitan services – for Victorian Senior Card holders.
