By Latrobe Valley Tenpin Bowling - 21st January 2004 - Back to News

For the taking will be $1500.00 as 1st prize for the Males and $1000.00 in the Female section. Another $500.00 can be won for those bowlers who do not make the top ten cut for finals by bowling off for the graded cup.

As well as money to be won all bowlers are via for important National Ranking points which this has an added incentive a trip to Cyprus for the Tenpin Bowling Commonwealth Games. The top ranked Male & Female youth bowler at the end of 2004 will receive a place in the Australian to travel to Coomonwealth games Cyprus in 2005.This trip alone is worth aprox $5000.00 to each bowler. The prestige of representing your Country is another reason why so many youth bowlers are travelling all over Australia this year to earn maximum points at these tournament.

Morwell Tenpins is unique in a sense at it is the only Regional Country Centre to Host a National Ranked Tournament. This year entries have reached 56 (7 more then last year) with 7 male bowlers from NSW , 1 Female NSW , 1 Male entry from Tassy and the rest from Victoria.

The field boast several past and current Australian representatives from Junior and Youth teams, as well as representing their states over several years.

Heading the locals will be Sarah-Jayne Arnold, her sister Katie Arnold and Debra Bosma who have all bowled for Vcitoria. Christine Day from NSW has confirmed her entry and will bring a lot of experience into the female section. Christine does not usually travel interstate and it will be fantastic to watch her in action at Morwell. Also making a big push in this tournament will be Melbourne's new sensation Tracy Madden, who in the last 12 months has everyone watching out for her. Tracy's improvement has been in her mental game and she feels that she a chance every time she enters a tournament. In the male section local's Brett Lacey , Clinton Monds and Dillan De Mather will be trying to upset some of the more fancied rivals from NSW and Metro Melbourne.Glen Loader from NSW and Matthew O'Brien would have to be the initial favourites based on the form they showed in Bankstown NSW 2 weeks ago. However Bowlers like Joel Lovegrove who won the Adult Master's at Morwell last year and Brendan Duthie from Werribee who is averaging a staggering 237 in league at the moment would be out to upset the more fancied interstate bowlers.

The tournament also boast's a couple of young juniors tr ying to learn and bowl with some of their Tenpin idols from interstate.

Locals Emma farnsworth and Robert Monds have been able to bowl due to the generosity of Local Bowler Peter(flano) Flanigan who donated some cash so that a couple of our juniors could experience bowling in a major tournament.

The tournament like everything else can not proceed unless there are some sponsors involved and we would like to thank the following for their contributions towards the Latrobe Valley Youth Cup.

Latrobe City Council, 3Tr Fm Radio Station, Aygee Gippsland, Australian Paper, Parkinson Wholesale Foods, Slush Puppie Victoria, Hi-Tech Engraving, Hazelwood Coach Lines, Gippsland Printers.

Giving all bowlers a fair and even chance to qualify for the finals on Monday. The top 10 Males and top ten females will make the final.

The rest of the field will then have a handicap added to their qualifying scratch scores bowled on Saturday and Sunday and the top 12 bowlers will be announced to bowl another 4 games to declare the Graded Cup winner and $500.00 in Prize money.
