The Allan Labor government has delivered a new, state-of-the-art ambulance branch in Morwell, supporting hardworking paramedics to do what they do best - save lives in their community. Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today officially opened the new branch alongside local paramedics who provide care across the Latrobe Valley.

Modern ambulance station

The new ambulance station features a nine-bay garage for ambulances, eight rest and recline areas for paramedics to recuperate, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and improved security and car parking.

More than 60 paramedics are stationed at the branch 24 hours a day, including Advanced Life Support (ALS crews), a Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) crew, a MICA single responder and Non-Emergency Patient Transport services.

The Morwell station is one of the 46 new or upgraded ambulance stations delivered through a $279 million investment by the Allan Labor government to provide better working conditions for paramedics and ensure lifesaving emergency care is available for all Victorians.

Investing in care

The Labor government has invested more than $2 billion into ambulance services since 2014 - recruiting more than 2,200 additional paramedics, delivering 41 new or upgraded ambulance stations and establishing a new Centre for Paramedicine in partnership with Victoria University.

Paramedics are also getting the training and skills they need to deliver increasingly specialised levels of care, with 2022 election commitments helping to deliver Australia's first Paramedic Practitioners and more MICA paramedics.

These investments are as important as ever, with the latest quarterly performance data revealing Victorian paramedics responded to nearly 100,000 Code One cases this quarter, or around 1,100 lights and sirens cases daily. This is more than 3,000 additional Code One incidents than at the same quarter last year - an increase of 1.5 per cent year-to-date on what was Ambulance Victoria's busiest year on record.

Backing local paramedics

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "We're making sure the dedicated local paramedics in Morwell have a modern, safe station to support them in doing what they do best - saving lives and caring for the community across the Latrobe Valley."

Minister for Ambulance Services Mary-Anne Thomas said, "Our hardworking ambos deserve the very best facilities, and this new state-of-the-art station will ensure they are well rested so they can continue delivering world-class care when and where the local community needs."
