Latrobe Performing Arts Proudly Presents Light Up The StageA series of workshops covering contemporary dance, music, improvisation and even belly dancing is about to launch at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon. By Latrobe City - 3rd May 2013 - Back to News
Latrobe City Council’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts, said that the program for Light Up the Stage incorporated a wide range of performing arts aimed at giving participants a solid foundation for performing.
"We are delighted to have Jayden Hicks return to Latrobe City to present two contemporary dance workshops on Wednesday 1 May at 6pm and 8pm. The first is targeted at beginners and the second is a master class for the more experienced dancers. Make sure you book yourself a place as these workshops are bound to be popular.
"The Twoks are a musical duo playing electric violin and drums and their eclectic style will engage as they walk you through the art of musical improvisation. The workshop will be held on Monday 6 May from 6pm. The Twoks will then perform from 8pm taking the audience on a quirky musical journey," Ms Roberts said.
Ms Roberts added that for those intrigued by exotic or historical dancing the Paper Dolls Dance Studio would provide tuition in belly dancing and the Charleston.
"If you’ve ever wanted to shimmy and shake, kick and twirl, then these workshops are for you. It’s time to put your inhibitions aside and let Paper Dolls show you just how well you can move those hips! It’s fun and informal, so come along on Wednesday 8 May for a great evening. Belly Dancing for Beginners will start at 6pm and Charleston Cuties will begin at 7.30pm," Ms Roberts said.
Tickets for all workshops and performances can be booked through the Box Office on 5176 3559.
Jayden Hicks has been dancing since he was three years old, training at Vicki’s Dancing Academy in Traralgon. Throughout that time he took part in local musical theatre. Jayden began training professionally at the Australian International School of Coaching and attended Jason Coleman’s inaugural Ministry of Dance, completing his scholarship year at the Space. In 2010 he directed and choreographed The Space’s production of EXHIBIT: The Misconception of Dance produced through the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Jayden was involved with one of Melbourne’s most talked about dance companies, Vertical Shadows, as a soloist dancer in Release the Stars and the StageArt in the production of Matalor. Jayden continued working with Vertical Shadows in 2012 in On The Rocks as well as working with Quirky Productions in their production of La Cage Aux Folles and Melbourne Ballet Company in their Infinite Space as well as On Air tours.
