Enough is Enough event to raise Victoria Against Violence awarenessLatrobe City joins the campaigns on preventing family and gender-based violence.
By Portal Admin - 9th December 2017 - Back to News Latrobe City Council is partnering with Quantum Support Services to raise awareness of the Victoria Against Violence, White Ribbon and 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaigns. The ‘Enough is Enough’ event will be held on Friday 1 December on the forecourt of the Moe Library and Service Centre from 11am to 1pm.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Cr Darrell White, said supporting the event was a component of the broader support for campaigns that focussed on preventing family and gender-based violence.
"As an organisation at the grass-roots level of our community, we have a duty to demonstrate our stance against violence and to allow community members to show their support for a community free from violence. We all know that Victoria Police and organisations like Quantum do a great job in responding to family violence when it occurs but as a community we want to help stop it before it starts.
"But events like this also provide an opportunity for our community to learn about the initiatives and agencies within Latrobe City that offer support and services to prevent family violence ," Cr White said.
The free event will feature games and activities, a barbecue and live music including Newborough Primary School Choir and bands from Trafalgar High School, Latrobe City Council and Quantum Support Services. Harold the Lifeline alpaca will also be on site.
The 16 Days of Activism runs from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, through to Human Rights Day on 10 December. The Victorian Government is also running the Victoria Against Violence campaign during the 16 Days of Activism and is encouraging individuals, families, organisations and businesses to stand together to prevent family and gender-based violence.
White Ribbon Day, 25 November, coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. White Ribbon is a male-led movement with a vision for a nation that respects women, in which every woman lives in safety, free from all men’s abuse.
"We invite our community to come along and browse the information stalls from service providers and community groups working to prevent violence against women.
"Understanding the impact of gender-based violence is important, but knowing where to seek help and support is key. This event is designed to offer the community both understanding and knowledge," Cr White concluded.
