Tom McIntosh joins the opening of new multi-million dollar Ambulance Station in Yarram, enhancing emergency care across Victoria
The Allan Labor government has opened a new multi-million dollar ambulance station in Yarram, enhancing emergency care. The facility includes modern amenities, improving paramedic safety, response times, and community healthcare access.
The Allan Labor government is continuing to upgrade and build new ambulance stations across Victoria, with a brand new, multi-million dollar station officially open in Yarram. Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh this week opened the new station alongside hard working local paramedics - with the new facility helping them do what they do best, save and change lives.
The new Lawler Street ambulance station features a garage, rest areas, training facilities, a kitchen, security, parking, and long-term accommodation for paramedics
Ambulance services investment
Located on Lawler Street, the new ambulance branch includes a three-bay ambulance garage, two rest and recline areas, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and improved security and parking. The new station also includes longer term accommodation facilities, designed to help paramedics rest and recuperate after responding to emergencies.
Yarram's first ambulance branch opened over 100 years ago, this bigger and better station is a continuation of Ambulance Victoria's proud history in the town. The Labor government continues to invest in ambulance services across Gippsland, with the new station at Foster opening late last year and another new station at Paynesville officially open this week.
They are three of 45 new branches completed across the state in the last nine years, as part of a $280 million investment since 2015 to deliver 50 ambulance stations, providing better working conditions for paramedics and ensuring lifesaving emergency care is available for all Victorians.
Investing in paramedics
The Labor government is also investing more than $200 million to improve access to emergency care across the state - including an additional $46 million towards training 40 MICA paramedics, getting 25 specialist paramedic practitioners on the road and supporting the new Centre for Excellence in Paramedicine.
To help paramedics meet demand and respond to the most time-critical patients, a further $108 million has been delivered to support the Secondary Triage Service and the Medium Acuity Transport Service.
New ambulance station
Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said, "This new station enhances safety and working conditions for our paramedics so that they can continue to provide lifesaving care to the community in Yarram and across the local region."
Minister for Ambulance Services Mary-Anne Thomas said, "Our dedicated ambos are on the front line of emergency care, so it is crucial we provide them with the safer, modern facilities they need to do their lifesaving work."
