‘Churchill To Brunswick Return’ At Latrobe Regional Gallery

An exhibition featuring the results of a collaborative effort by Melbourne-based painter Massimo Palombo and Latrobe Valley printmaker Kate Zizys, is now showing at the Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell.

The work featured in the exhibition ‘Churchill to Brunswick Return’ is the result of the labour of the two working artists over one and a half years.

Latrobe Regional Gallery director, Jacqui Hemsley, said the artists’ concerns are simple: they make work about people in the neighbourhood, the book read last night, what’s viewed on television, observed in a classroom, imagined in a fancy, read about in the local paper, seen next door through the fence. "Reality and the people around them are the matter for this exhibition," Ms Hemsley said.

Massimo Palombo and Kate Zizys think that it is important for rural and metropolitan artists to show together in the hope that their daily observations and endeavours to produce art will inspire audiences in the country and the city equally. They believe it is important to produce and exhibit works that are the result of a dedication to the practice of art making. "We are art-workers and it is through our process that we can contribute to our society, rural and metro alike," the artists explained.

‘Churchill to Brunswick Return’ features until 27 September 2007.

The Latrobe Regional Gallery is open 7 days a week, Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am – 4pm. Admission is free. For more information, contact the gallery on 5128 5700, fax 5128 5706 or email lrg@latrobe.vic.gov.au
