Aged and Disability Services Continue to Support our Community

Continued aged support through transition.

While Bass Coast Shire Council is working toward a transition out of Aged and Disability services, it is continuing to provide services to clients throughout 2019.

The services will continue with a new provider after December 2019. Council staff will be supporting all clients and carers through this transition.

Council will be holding four community drop-in information sessions in late March. Officers will be at the sessions to answer any questions and provide further information on the transition. All interested clients, carers or community members are encouraged to attend.

The sessions will be held at the following:

  • Wonthaggi – Monday, 25 March from 9.30amto 10.30am at the Civic Centre Council Chamber;
  • Grantville – Monday, 25 March, from 1.00pm to 2.00pm at the Grantville Transaction Centre;
  • Inverloch – Wednesday, 27 March 2019 from 9.30am to 10.30am at the Inverloch Community Hub, in the large meeting room, and;
  • Cowes – Wednesday, 27 March 2019 from 1.00pm to 2.00pm at the Cowes Cultural Centre, in Meeting Room 1.

These sessions will also be promoted to current clients through the March Client Newsletter.

Council officers understand there is some concern within the community that people aged under 65 who are not eligible for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding, will no longer receive services after the transition. People aged under 65 who have a disability are encouraged to test their eligibility for NDIS. Those ineligible for the NDIS may still qualify for ongoing services. People who are eligible for the State Government Home and Community Program for Younger People will continue to receive services from Council during 2019 and through a new provider in 2020.

Council resolved to transition out of direct Aged and Disability service provision at its Ordinary Meeting in November 2018.

This decision was made due to the Commonwealth Government’s health reform changes that affect Aged and Disability services and impacts on Council’s ability to continue delivering these services to the community.
