Latrobe City Welcomes our Newest Citizens
Newly naturalised Australian citizens from countries including Italy, Russia, Iran, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, warmly welcomed at Latrobe City Councils second Citizenship Ceremony.
Newly naturalised Australian citizens from countries including Italy, Russia, Iran, Sri Lanka and the Philippines were warmly welcomed at Latrobe City Councils second Citizenship Ceremony on Wednesday evening.
It was the first Citizenship Ceremony conducted by recently elected Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Dan Clancey who was humbled by watching the joy on our newest citizens faces as they made their pledge to Australia.
"Choosing to be an Australian Citizen is a huge decision for anyone and to be able to play a role in this important life event is truly humbling," said Mayor Clancey.
"We are honoured to have hosted the ceremony where 16 new citizens from a range of Nationalities were awarded Australian Citizenship.
"It is a privilege to welcome these new Australians who will enhance the cultural fabric of our regional city."
Latrobe’s newest citizens made their citizenship pledge in front of more than 80 family and friends, along with local members of parliament Russell Broadbent MP and Russell Northe MP, before being presented with their Certificate of Citizenship and a native plant.
The citizenship ceremony represents the final step in the journey for many new Australians.
