The Nationals Member for Gippsland, PETER HALL, is reminding people of the Gippsland electorate that submissions to the Victorian Community History Awards close in two weeks.

By Peter Hall - 10th February 2005 - Back to News

"The Victorian Community History Awards acknowledge that history can be told in many and varied ways, ultimately benefiting all Victorians", Mr. Hall said.

"The subject matter is limited to history within the State of Victoria, and all entries must be provided in a finished format, proofs or manuscripts will not be accepted", explained Mr Hall.

"Entries must also be in English, or have an English translation, and the work must have been completed between 1 January and 31 December, 2004."

Mr. Hall said the Awards encompass a $5,000 first prize and six $1,000 prizes for the finalists of each category. The categories were Best Collaborative/Community Work; Best Print/Publication; Best Audio – Visual/Multimedia; Best Exhibit/Display; Best Walk/Tour; and Best Community Research/Register/Records.

"Entries are judged on content and presentation in the spirit of presenting innovative ways of recording community history across the State", said Mr Hall.

"I urge local communities or individuals who completed a history of their area last year, to submit an entry for a 2005 Victorian Community History Award," Mr. Hall said.

Entries must be received by 12 noon Friday 25th February, 2005, on the official entry form which can be obtained from Mr Hall’s office on 5174 7066 or downloaded from Information Victoria’s website www.information.vic.gov.au or by telephoning Information Victoria on 1300 366 356
