By news@gippsland - 7th August 2026 - Back to News Labor is backing local manufacturers to strengthen Victoria's building industry. Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today visited Drouin West Timber and Truss to announce Victorian government support for the family business through the Victorian Investment Fund. Drouin West Timber and Truss specialise in Modern Method of Construction, manufacturing and installing panel building systems, including wall and floor panels. They also specialise in roof and floor trusses, wall frames and associated timber products. 
Funding will help Drouin West Timber and Truss install robotic technology, double building kit production by 2030 and create six new local jobs Boosting regional manufacturingThe funding will help the company install robotic production equipment and software that will more than double the number of building kits it manufactures annually by 2030. It will create six new roles at the site and position the company to take advantage of future growth opportunities. Once complete, these works will make it easier for builders to access quality building kits, supporting an increase in housing construction and strengthening the local supply chain. Through the Victorian Investment Fund, $50 million has been dedicated to regional Victoria. The government has already announced support for major upgrades at Tongala Nutrition's dairy processing facility in northern Victoria and a further expansion of George Weston Foods' new flour mill in Ballarat. Support for these businesses is part of the more than $50 billion that has been invested into regional Victoria in just over a decade, to make our regions even better places to live, work, experience, invest and study. Supporting local growthMinister for Regional Development Michaela Settle said, "Drouin West Timber and Truss are helping build the homes Victorians need, and this investment will help the business more than double its production of housing kits by 2030. This investment will help the business grow faster, produce more housing kits and create more local jobs." Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "We're determined to support local companies to expand their operations - modern methods of construction like this are good for business, and good for jobs, and great for homebuyers. Drouin West Timber and Truss is a family business success story, and this support will help it to employ more staff and double its operations by 2030." Peter Ward, Drouin West Timber and Truss Founder and Managing Director said, "We are grateful for the Victorian government's support of this investment, which places DWTT at the forefront of robotics and advanced manufacturing in modern methods of construction. The project will increase our offsite manufacturing capacity by around 50 per cent, create new skilled jobs and help us deliver more innovative housing solutions for Victorians."
