Enrol Your Child For Intensive Swimming Lessons These HolidaysLatrobe City Leisure Centres will be holding intensive swimming lessons for children over the Easter school holidays. By Latrobe City Council - 14th April 2010 - Back to News Both Churchill and Morwell Leisure Centres are running the intensive lessons, which cater to children of all swimming levels, these school holidays.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said the importance of swimming lessons should not be underestimated.
"Swimming lessons are crucial to ensuring the safety of children around the water and they can potentially save lives. Many families holiday at the beach, or visit the pool, in the summer months and swimming lessons can provide parents with peace of mind; knowing their child is a capable swimmer.
While safety is a key factor in swimming lessons, the skills developed also allow children to enjoy the recreational aspects of water sports which form a significant part of Australian culture," Cr O’Callaghan said.
Latrobe City’s general manager, recreational and cultural liveability, Grantley Switzer, said that program classes began at different times to allow more children to attend the lessons.
"The duration of the classes is 30 minutes, but please be aware that the times of the lessons vary so be sure to contact the leisure centre you will be attending to confirm the timetable.
"The program is being held at Latrobe Leisure Churchill from Sunday 28 March until Thursday 1 April. For the second week of the holidays the program will be at Latrobe Leisure Morwell, starting on Tuesday 6 April until Saturday 10 April. The cost of the five-day program is $65 per child, which includes entry to the pool," Mr Switzer said.
