Get Creative During The School Holidays At The GalleryLatrobe Regional Gallery will be offering a variety of hands-on arts activities for all ages during the winter school holidays. By Latrobe City Council - 1st July 2009 - Back to News Morning or afternoon sessions are available for families, children and young adults. The sessions will feature a variety of different activities for children aged
3-15.
The junior workshops for families and children aged 3-6 will see participants view ‘The World in Painting’ exhibition to look at the colours and shapes used by artists. Participants will then have the opportunity to create their own work of art made up of colours, shapes and textures to make collages.
Children aged from 7-11 years will love to be given the chance to draw inspiration from Kees Hos’s exhibition: ‘Seventy Years of Art Practice.’ They will have the opportunity to create a line and texture drawing using oil pastels which will then be painted over with a water based paint wash. In the afternoon participants will then be given the opportunity to turn their work of art into a concertina style book.
The 12-15 year olds will also view ‘The World in Painting’ exhibition while exploring the artists’ use of patterning and colour. They will then get the opportunity to create patterns using cut out blocks and stamping techniques, which will then be transformed into a concertina collage book in the afternoon session.
The sessions will run in the second week of the school holidays from 7-9 July 2009.
On Tuesday 7 July there are family workshops for children aged 3 – 6 years: 10.30 to 11.30 am for ‘Cut and Paste 2D’; and 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm for ‘Cut and Paste 3D’. Cost: $5.50 per workshop or $10 for both.
Children must be accompanied by an appropriate adult throughout this session.
On Wednesday 8 July there are workshops for children aged 7 – 11 years: 10.30 to 11.30 am for ‘Line and Wash’; and 1.30 to 2.30 pm for ‘Concertina Book or Line and Wash ’. Cost: $8.80 per workshop or $13 for both. Children must be dropped off and picked up from the Gallery foyer by an appropriate adult. Children attending one session will only make the pastel and wash drawing.
On Thursday 9 July there are workshops for young adults aged 12 – 15 years: 10.30 to 11.45am for ‘Printing and Stamping; and 1.30 to 2.45pm for ‘Collage Concertina Book’. Cost: $10 per workshop or $15 for both.
All materials are supplied for the sessions.
