Make an early splash into summer at Yallourn North poolLatrobe City is all set to celebrate the arrival of warmer weather with the Yallourn North outdoor pool opening its gates for the season this Saturday, 11 November 2006. By Latrobe City Council - 8th November 2006 - Back to News Latrobe City’s leisure facilities coordinator, Georgina Mitchell, explained that early opening is a new council initiative made possible by the facility’s solar powered heating.
"Whilst we have had some warm, sunny days, the water temperature at the city’s other outdoor pools is yet to heat up. At Yallourn North, however, the solar heating provides warm water even in late spring/early summer," Ms Mitchell explained.
"With ample shade, a toddler pool and a children’s activity room, the Yallourn North outdoor pool is a great family day out and the weather forecast for this Saturday looks good so we hope that many eager swimmers will turn up for this special early opening day," Ms Mitchell concluded.
Latrobe City’s other outdoor pools at Traralgon and Moe have been scheduled to open at the usual seasonal opening date which this year is Saturday 2 December 2006.
Ms Mitchell said that opening day at all three outdoor pools would mean free entry for all patrons from 10am to 7pm.
"Snacks and drinks are available at the kiosk facilities and the barbecues will be fired up. Expect fun and games, and a special appearance from 3TR FM. Come along and join in the fun on opening day!" Ms Mitchell said.
"We also have a new program of activities planned for the pools this year, with Tai Chi, aqua aerobics, pilates on the grass, beach volleyball and diving competitions. Morning swimming will be available again this year at Traralgon outdoor pool with sessions running on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 6am and 8am. A complimentary healthy lifestyle breakfast will also be provided for those who participate," Ms Mitchell said.
"In another council initiative, the opening hours have been extended this year at all of the pools, to include a lunch-time option during term time for those wanting to do laps or take part in aqua aerobics at a slightly quieter time," Ms Mitchell concluded.
Operating hours until Sunday 17 December 2006 and from Monday 29 January 2007 to Monday 12 March 2007: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 3.30pm - 7pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays 1.30pm - 7pm; Saturdays and Sundays 12noon - 7pm.
From Monday 18 December 2006 to Sunday 28 January 2007: 12noon – 7pm seven days a week.
All outdoor pools are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
