Safety upgrades at the notoriously dangerous intersection at Lloyd Street and Waterloo Road are no closer to materialising despite a promise from the Allan Labor government that works would begin mid-2024. Under questioning from The Nationals' Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, Minister for Roads Melissa Horne revealed the design process has not started and no land has been acquired for the project.

Safety upgrades delayed
Mr Cameron said, "This intersection has caused far too many accidents, and it was earmarked for critical safety works some three years ago. Drivers effectively roll the dice every time they're forced to negotiate this intersection because trucks, buses and cars are forced to queue and short-stack frequently. Moe residents were told the long-promised safety upgrades would begin mid-year, but it turns out the state government has not even come up with a design for the project or acquired land."
"Billions of dollars continue to be spent on blowout projects like the Suburban Rail Loop and level crossing removals in metropolitan Melbourne, while regional Victorians are left to traverse dangerous roads and level crossings that have been left to rot. At a time when our roads are falling apart and in need of major investment, we instead have road maintenance allocation that's down a whopping 45 per cent on what it was in 2020."
"If Labor can remove 82 level crossings in Melbourne in four years, surely it can extend the same courtesy to the people of Moe who have been waiting for critical safety upgrades for three years. Labor can't manage money, can't manage roads, and regional Victorians are paying the price," said Mr Cameron.
